Kota, October 3: The Rajasthan government has granted financial approval for a 149 crore cancer unit at the new hospital of Kota Medical College. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a meeting with the Medical College Principal, hospital superintendents and heads of departments and directed officials to start work immediately.
The dedicated cancer unit will provide comprehensive cancer treatment under one roof and is expected to benefit patients from Kota, the entire Hadoti region and nearby areas.
Birla said that development works worth around ₹175 crore are planned in Kota’s government hospitals. He noted that patients, particularly from poor families, often have to travel to Jaipur for cancer treatment. The new facility is expected to reduce this burden.
A three-storey Central Laboratory will also be constructed at the MBS campus. In addition, advanced CT Scan and MRI machines will be installed to reduce waiting times for patients.
Birla said that several other facilities, including a Burn Unit, Women and Child Hospital, cottages and cubicles, are also being developed at the new medical college hospital. A Ramashram is being constructed to provide accommodation and food facilities for attendants accompanying patients.
The new hospital will offer various super-speciality services. Birla also said that private institutions are expected to establish a cancer hospital in Kota within the next three months, along with other super-speciality facilities.
He stressed the need for better medical facilities in Kota and neighbouring districts, including Baran, Bundi and Jhalawar, so that patients can access advanced treatment closer to home.
