Navratri and Durga Puja Push Demand
The rise in airfare is not limited to the Dhanteras rush. Travel demand has also increased due to Navratri celebrations in Gujarat and Durga Puja festivities in Kolkata.
On October 11, IndiGo is operating four flights between Jaipur and Ahmedabad, with fares ranging from ₹7,100 to ₹16,617. By October 17, the fares are expected to be comparatively lower, ranging between ₹6,800 and ₹8,299.
Similarly, Kolkata-bound fares are being influenced by the Durga Puja rush. On October 11, fares for three available flights range from ₹12,260 to ₹21,227, while by October 17, they are expected to settle between ₹12,260 and ₹15,095.
Why Are Airfares Rising So Quickly?
Unlike railway fares, airline ticket prices are not fixed. Airlines use a dynamic pricing system, under which ticket prices change according to demand and seat availability.
Initially, airlines offer tickets through cheaper fare categories. Once those seats are sold, the cheaper categories disappear and only higher-priced seats remain available. During festivals and holidays, strong demand can therefore cause fares to rise sharply within a short period.
For passengers planning to travel to Jaipur during the festive season, booking tickets well in advance could help avoid the steepest fare increases.
