Lok Adalat directs Municipal Corporation to shift aggressive dogs to a shelter home
Kota: In a case involving a youth injured in a stray dog attack in the Civil Lines area of Nayapura, Kota, the Permanent Lok Adalat has directed the Municipal Corporation to pay ₹15,000 as compensation to the victim. The court has also ordered the immediate removal of aggressive stray dogs from the area and their relocation to a shelter home.
According to the report, the incident occurred on April 8, when Naresh Kumar Rayal, 30, was returning home from his duty on a scooter. Suddenly, four to five stray dogs attacked him, causing him to fall. One of the dogs bit his right leg. His friend, Vir Singh, took him to Maharav Bhim Singh Hospital, where he received an anti-rabies vaccination.
During the hearing, Municipal Corporation advocate Anmol Bairwa referred to the ABC Rules and Supreme Court guidelines, arguing that dogs must be released at the same location after sterilisation. He also cited the figure of 40,000 dogs in connection with the issue.
However, as the two parties failed to reach a settlement, the Lok Adalat bench, comprising Presiding Officer Archana Agrawal and members Pratibha Dixit and Kusum Vijay, passed its order.
The bench directed the Municipal Corporation to pay ₹15,000 in compensation to Naresh Kumar Rayal within the stipulated period. It further ordered that if the payment is not made by April 6, interest at the rate of 6% per annum will be payable from April 9 until the date of payment.
The court also issued strict directions for the immediate relocation of aggressive dogs roaming near the victim's residence to a shelter home.
The order is aimed at addressing public safety concerns and preventing similar incidents in the area.
