Haji Mohammad Miyan Writes to District Collector, Mayor and Municipal Corporation CEO
KOTA: Haji Mohammad Miyan, National Vice-President of the International Human Rights Journalist Association, social worker and former Director of the Rajasthan Housing Board, has written to the District Collector, Mayor and Chief Executive Officer of Kota Municipal Corporation, urging them to resume Qawwali and Mushaira programmes at the historic Kota Dussehra Mela.
In his letter, Miyan highlighted that the Dussehra Mela has long been a symbol of Kota’s rich Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, reflecting the city’s composite cultural heritage and communal harmony.
He pointed out that the mela traditionally hosted renowned Qawwali performers and prominent poets from across India, attracting thousands of visitors who gathered to enjoy these cultural programmes.
However, these events have reportedly been discontinued for the past few years, leaving literature lovers, admirers of Sufi music and members of the general public disappointed.
Miyan appealed to the district administration and the Municipal Corporation to understand public sentiments and restore these programmes at the upcoming Dussehra Mela.
He said that reviving Qawwali and Mushaira would not only bring back the traditional charm of the fair but also help preserve Kota’s rich cultural legacy and promote communal harmony through art, music and poetry.
