New Delhi, October 17: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's squads for the upcoming five-match One-Day International (ODI) series and two-Test series against New Zealand. Shubman Gill will captain India in the first three ODIs and the Test series, while Shreyas Iyer will lead the team in the final two ODI matches. Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has once again been left out of the squad.
The ODI series will begin on November 4 in Auckland, with the fifth and final match scheduled for November 15 in Mount Maunganui. Experienced batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in both ODI squads, providing strength to India's batting line-up.
Shreyas Iyer to Lead in Final Two ODIs
Gill has been named captain for the first three ODIs, with Iyer serving as vice-captain. For the fourth and fifth matches, Iyer will take over the captaincy, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will serve as vice-captain. Gill and wicketkeeper KL Rahul have not been included in the squad for the final two ODIs.
The selection committee has also included young players such as Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir and Anshul Kamboj in the ODI squads. Prasidh Krishna's selection for the first three matches is subject to fitness clearance.
Bumrah Returns to Test Squad
For the two-match Test series, Gill will lead the side, with KL Rahul appointed vice-captain. The Test squad includes experienced players Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav, alongside young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan.
Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has also been selected, subject to fitness clearance. The first Test will begin in Wellington on November 19, followed by the second Test in Christchurch from November 27.
Mohammed Shami's continued absence is among the notable talking points of the selection announcement.
