Kota, October 21, 2026: A solemn and dignified ceremony was held at the Reserve Police Lines in Kota City on Wednesday to mark Police Commemoration Day. Police personnel and senior officers paid heartfelt tributes to brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across India every year on October 21 in memory of 10 brave police personnel who were martyred in a Chinese army attack in the Hot Springs area of Ladakh in 1959. The day also honours police personnel across the country who have laid down their lives while performing their duties.
The programme began at 8 am with the arrival of Kota City Superintendent of Police Tejaswini Gautam at the parade ground. A ceremonial guard presented a salute to welcome her, followed by a report on the Police Commemoration Day parade by the parade commander.
The Inspector General of Police, Kota Range, read out the names of police personnel who had lost their lives in the line of duty. Serving and retired senior police officers paid floral tributes to the martyrs, remembering their supreme sacrifice.
A ceremonial salute of mourning was then performed in honour of the fallen personnel. Police officers and personnel observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect. The parade commander also ordered three rounds of firing in honour of the martyrs, followed by the singing of the national anthem.
A platoon from the Second Battalion of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC), Kota, along with one platoon each from Kota City and Kota Rural Police, participated in the parade. The parade was led by Sub-Inspector Durgashankar of the Kota City Police Lines.
Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, station house officers from various police stations, and personnel from different branches of the police department attended the ceremony. Retired senior police officers were also invited to pay their respects to the departed personnel.
