Lok Sabha Speaker Reviews Development Works, Directs Officials to Ensure Pothole-Free Roads and Better Lighting Before Festivals
KOTA: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday chaired a review meeting with officials of the Kota Development Authority (KDA), Municipal Corporation and other departments at the KDA auditorium. Reviewing the city's development projects, sanitation system and public amenities, he directed officials to ensure the timely completion of works and prompt resolution of citizens' grievances.
Birla said the functioning of the Municipal Corporation and KDA should reflect a model of good governance, with better public services, transparency and time-bound grievance redressal as key priorities. He stressed that officials must focus on addressing people's problems within the stipulated time frame.
Ahead of the festive season, Birla directed officials to ensure that roads across the city are made pothole-free and that lighting arrangements at major markets, intersections and public places are improved. He also called for better management of markets to prevent traffic congestion, particularly during the evening hours.
He emphasised that officials should not limit themselves to reviewing arrangements from their offices but should regularly visit different parts of the city and resolve problems on the spot.
Mayor Anusuiya Goswami, Deputy Mayor Vivek Rajvanshi, KDA Commissioner Bachnesh Agrawal, Municipal Commissioner O.P. Mehra, Additional Divisional Commissioner Mamta Tiwari, KDA Secretary Mukesh Chaudhary and other departmental officials attended the meeting.
Development Projects Must Be Completed on Time
Birla instructed KDA and Municipal Corporation officials to complete all development projects within their निर्धारित deadlines, making it clear that unnecessary delays would not be acceptable. He also issued directions to expedite the commencement of key projects, including the proposed cancer unit, cricket stadium and smart road.
During the meeting, KDA Commissioner Bachnesh Agrawal informed Birla that an online monitoring system had been developed to track the progress of development projects. The system is expected to facilitate regular monitoring and help ensure timely completion of works.
Public Convenience Must Remain the Priority
Birla told the Mayor and Municipal Corporation officials that citizens should not have to make repeated visits to government offices to get their work done. All public-related services must be delivered within the prescribed time limits, while issues concerning roads, sanitation, street lighting and other basic amenities should be addressed on priority.
Directing the Municipal Commissioner to bring comprehensive improvements to the city's sanitation system, Birla said efforts should be made to develop Kota as a model city in cleanliness. He stressed the need for regular monitoring, efficient resource management and accountability among officials.
Development Committees to Be Formed in Every Ward
The Lok Sabha Speaker directed the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner to constitute development committees in every municipal ward, with the participation of prominent and knowledgeable local residents.
These committees will provide suggestions regarding ward-level requirements and development works. Local residents should also be involved in monitoring ongoing projects and ensuring the proper maintenance of public infrastructure.
Birla further directed officials to improve the functioning of sector offices, making them important centres for receiving public complaints and suggestions. He also called for speeding up work related to zonal offices to improve service delivery.
Special Camps in New Residential Colonies
Birla instructed KDA officials to organise special camps in newly developed residential schemes and colonies to listen to residents' problems and suggestions.
Officials were asked to visit these areas, understand the difficulties faced by residents and take necessary steps to resolve them. The development of roads, public lighting and other basic amenities in new colonies should be prioritised to ensure that families living there do not face inconvenience.
Birla reiterated that coordinated efforts by the KDA, Municipal Corporation and other departments are essential to improve civic facilities, accelerate development and establish a citizen-centric model of governance in Kota.
